Seeking revenge, she leads a team deep into alien territory to a quarantined lab. Electronic Art: Hylozoic Ground

This installation is covered in sensors, microprocessors, mechanical joints and filters. They allow the installation to mimic a living creature's response to its environment, drawing in and filtering moisture and organic particles from the air. The title refers to hylozoism, an ancient philosophical view that matter has life, and proposes a future city that would operate as a living being.  Personally, I just like it because it looks like the webbing holding the victims in Alien³.

Photography: Roofer’s Point of View

Batshit crazy or just have a death wish? Then, boy, do I have a hobby for you! A new generation of young Russian photographers have a different and unexpected way of looking at a city. In ‘Roofer’s Point of View’ we follow Vadim Mahorov and Vitaliy Yakhnenko on their exciting journey to terrifying heights, capturing photos of the city from places people normally avoid.

Electronic Art: Fragile Territories

"Fragile Territories" laser and sound installation by Robert Henke

Fragile Territories illuminates a thirty meter wide wall using four fast moving laser beams.
"Complex visual shapes emerge, drawn on a 30 meter wide wall by four fast moving laser beams, constantly changing motions of pure light. Sounds - transformed recordings of a piano - fill the room, sometimes in sync with the visual aspects and sometimes running simply in parallel. Whilst everything is floating and happening in rather long intervals, a constant black shadow is moving in front of the projection, from left to right, every 4.2 seconds, like a giant blade of a windmill, a negative object that contrasts the bright projection by muting it where it appears. It is not only obscuring the image but also dampening the sounds at its current position and emitting a low frequency noise itself. A dark strong force that puts the rest in an infinitely distant background.

Lunch Napkin Illustrations by Brooklyn illustrator Nina Levy

Nina Levy has been transforming plain ol' white napkins into riotously colorful works of art for her sons, 9-year-old Archer and 5-year-old Ansel, since 2007.  Her medium of choice is waterproof markers and her subject are typically superheroes, dogs, and, yes, superhero dogs. Levy has photographed over two thousand of her illustrated napkins to date, and she’s still going strong. Take a gander for yourself at her Daily Napkins blog.

Video: Daclotype

Seattle-based photographer Dan Carrillo provides this mesmerizing demonstration of the daguerrotype process. Check out some of the results of his work on Flickr.  It took a workshop, a lot of jury-rigging, and almost two years of shopping around for components for Carrillo to get started, but creating his daguerreotypes is almost an art in itself.
"There aren't very many things in this world that last that long. Especially in modern times where things are so disposable. Everything is just used and thrown out. So, in the digital realm, well, it's so easy to take a picture. It's so easy also to forget about it."

Posters: EASY

"EASY" by Canadian illustrator Charles Daoud
"I've always been attracted by contradictions. This poster is the first in a series of projects where contrast between what is said and what is shown is key. The maze is hand drawn and completely custom. It is absolutely possible to complete, if you're patient and crazy enough. It goes without saying that it is, of course, far from easy. Print was done through silk screening, white on black."

Short Film: Stranded

Short Film: Little Witch Academia

Little Witch Academia is an adorable and action-pack independent anime directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi of Dead Leaves, Gurren Lagann, and Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt.

While it may, at first blush, appear to be yet another piece of the increasingly common big-boobed ani-porn that has become so prevalent lately, Little Witch Academia is, in fact, a delightful blend of Western and Japanese animation styles that stands surprisingly well on its own. I highly recommend setting aside half an hour to give it your undivided attention if you're any sort of anime fan.

Video: My Desk is 8-Bit

"I recently found myself wondering what a video game might look like in the form of a stop motion animation. While a normal person’s response to such a question would of course be “who gives a sh*t?” I possess few of the qualities typically associated with normalcy and was irrevocably compelled to find out. This is the result."

Fresh Take: Han and Chewy

Han and Chewy in the style of Calvin and Hobbes by Rhys Kitson

I love this set. Kitson managed to perfectly capture the spirit of Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes without resorting to duplicating a panel of his comic strip.  That's rare.  I hope to see more of this series from Kitson soon, but I'm sad to say he's not offering any prints of this stuff.

Installation: Light and String

Ogle uses specially-lit fishing line to create fragile three-dimensional shapes that make it look as if you've just stepped onto the set of Tron.
"Much of my work to date has dealt with exploring notions of materiality, of permanence and of the perception of objects in space. Using light as a sculptural medium, my work is innately ephemeral. It begins as a set of strict mathematical procedures that are played out within an environment. The space simultaneously shapes the work and becomes manipulated by it.

Through negating material properties, my current practice seeks a mode of fragility. It rests on the edge between a sculptural form and an environmental effect of light within a space; a context from which the work is inseparable. Such pieces utilise both ambient and artificial light, channeling it and molding it into sculptural works that completely divorce themselves from static material: sculptures without mass and forms without structures."

Installation: Plexus Series

Plexus Series by Dallas-based artist Gabriel Dawe

Dawe's has made a name for himself with a series of site-specific prismatic installations woven of thread.  Up close, they may not appear to be much, but seen from a bit of a distance, they appear to be indoor rainbows.

Installation: Laser Forest

Commission for the STRP Biennale in Eindhoven

This interactive installation is composed of a forest of a hundred and fifty lit rods arrayed throughout a large factory.  When touched, the rods not only light up, they also create an unearthly sort of electronic tone, making the entire installation an enormous musical instrument.

Electronic Art: The Transfinite

“A huge, immersive, electronic light-and-sound installation consisting of an immense wall — 54 feet wide by 40 feet tall — which serves as a screen for streaming video projections.

On one side, horizontal black, gray and white stripes and bands divided into left and right sections scroll downward, flickering furiously to the sound of aggressively percussive, buzzing and whistling electronic music emitted by powerful speakers.

The bar-code-like patterns extend across the white floor in front of the wall, where visitors who have doffed their shoes may loll, dance or meditate. It’s like a walk-in, animated Op Art painting.
On the other side, the floor is covered by soft black fabric and the wall is flooded by finely articulated, incomprehensibly complicated numerical and graphic data.

What is it to be human in such a universe? What values other than statistical ones sustain us?”

I tried to incorporate some of my favorite imagery from the game, my favorite vigors, and communicate the kind of emotional toll that was felt by Elizabeth and Booker. (Maybe I'm projecting some of my sobworthy emotions as well T_T)"

Posters: Iron Man 3

Disney and IMAX have debuted an official poster for this summer's Iron Man 3 poster created by comic book artist Jock. It's part of IMAX's concluding "12:01" series, which are given out to movie-goers who show up to the movie's first midnight viewing. The poster's design seems to reference a scene in the trailer in which all of the Iron suits appear to come to Stark's rescue in the movie's climactic scene.

It's a fantastic poster, but right after its release, Jock released a bevy of "unused" versions of his design.  (Though, thanks to the internet, they seem to be getting more use than the official version.)  Here, I've collected them into one gallery from his website.
